Longing for Vancouver....

The convention was this weekend.....and here I was on the other side of the continent, longing to be there.

I could only dream of the smell of the redwoods in the lush of North Vancouver, the whispers of the rushing waters under the suspension bridges, the placid view of Capilano Lake from the top of Grouse Mountain. The constant looming of majestic mountains surrounding the city, and the sea swept scent of ocean breezes with every breath as I walk along the breakfront edging Stanley Park. As close to paradise as this girl could get.

I wondered how the convention was going. Sure I could view the itinerary on the website, see what guests were scheduled, the events that were planned. I could read how they were allowing photographs to be taken of the sets this year- something us inaugural guests at last year's first annual convention were not priviliged to do. Alas, I missed the atmosphere of hundreds of Stargate fans crowded into one hotel in downtown Burnaby, all decked out in their costumes, standing in endless lines for 30 seconds with their favorite cast member and a scribbled autograph on an overpriced studio glossy print. I couldn't hear the laughter as the actors convened with their adoring masses, sharing just enough of themselves to appear personable. I didn't meet up with the table gang from last year- Francy from Italy and Pierre from France, and others who travelled further than I would have to be there.

Sigh.

Even though I had made a concious decision that the cost just wasn't workable this year (over $5000 after flight, hotel, convention admission, photos with the actors, meals, etc.), and the celebrity line-up didn't involve any of the major cast members that would have justified the expenses- the pangs of regret are showing themselves. I will just have to live vicariously through the highlights and photos on GATEWORLD .

Come hell or high water- I will be there next year! (I'm starting the piggy bank fund now....)
