Gingerale & popsicles

I've been fighting something off for about a week. I had the telltale tickle in the back of my throat, and the annoying never ending nasal drip. I had a persistent feeling of general malaise. I knew it was comming, it was just a case of keeping the symptoms to a minimum and getting over it as quick as possible. Then it pulled a fast one.

I woke up at 3 am with a searing pain in my throat and an inability to swallow. Croaking in pain I stumbled to the bathroom and stared blinking in the light at the red mess that was my tonsils. Great. Figures. And why did they stop taking these things out again? Lucky (or unlucky) for me they quit removing tonsils as a child right in time for my generation. Antibiotics were the thing. Fat lot of good they do, when these damm things keep getting inflamed with every bug I catch!

I made my way back to bed and spent an uneasy few hours sleepless and trying with futile efforts to swallow. Complicating the matter was a certain cat that thought I needed some extra love at 4:30, and wouldn't take no for an answer. 5:45 the alarm screams in my ear and I go take a shower, knowing full well that I wasn't going to work, but going through the motions anyway. It was evident when I couldn't swallow breakfast that meeting with clients and phone calls were not a possibility, so I called in and flopped back into bed, wet hair and all. I didn't care.

Waking up at noon, it was evident that I needed the rest. My thoat still hurt, but was bearable with a constant stream of hot tea and soup to numb the raw flesh. And- bonus- I still had some mini fudge-sicles in the freezer! I felt guilty as hell, knowing that the work I had dismissed will be waiting for me tomorrow, the phone messages piling up....... In the words of my wise cats, "Meh." Add to that a shrug of the shoulders and you've got about how I feel.

I wonder if I can talk the Jello into bringing home some gingerale. Fizzies would definitely help........
