Simplicity is beautiful

The first snow of the season swirling around in Sam Lawrence Park. Crisp, cold, November air. Frost tipped blades of grass slowly being obscured by a thin blanket of sparkly white. A man bundled up in toque and gloves to stave off the blustery chill throws a stick for his companion. A flash of copper-red against the bleak background of dawn as an irish-setter gallops across the field, leaving a trail of melting green pawprints on the snowy ground. His ears fly behind him, tail wagging, as he retrieves his prize and drops it at his master's feet. He nips at the flakes falling around his snout and barks. His master obliges and lets the stick fly again.

Simple. Beautiful.

Technology Isn't Infallible.....

I thought it was.

I took faith in the fact that the words I posted to the screen would be there each time I logged on. I was a slave to building the site, organizing the screens, linking this to that, posting trivia and articles and quotes of the week. Then there was all the time spent roleplaying- coaxing the storyline along bit by bit, with twists and turns thrown in by other members; a never ending matrix of characters, plots and dialogue. 2 months of hours in front of the computer. Carpal tunnel syndrome, stacks of dishes in the sink, and a frustrated husband could not keep me from my addiction.

And then it was gone.

All I had was a time-warped page showing September 9, 2005. A "restored" version of my baby, which had fallen subject to a massive server crash on the host. It was little consolation that I was not alone in my misery. They were all gone.

And no recourse except to rebuild. And so it begins again.
